About Alan Milavetz

Alan Milavetz has been an attorney in Minnesota for forty years. A graduate of the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law, Alan is the president of Milavetz Law, where he has earned recognition for his advocacy for injured individuals.

Alan has been named as a Minnesota Super Lawyer twenty times. In 2023, Alan was presented with the Sidney Barrows Lifetime Commitment Award by the Twin Cities Cardozo Society.

Alan has been recognized by Minnesota Lawyer as an Attorney of the Year twice. The first was for his work on a case that made its way to the United States Supreme Court, involving the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 2005. This resulted in the Court construing the Act’s restrictions on a lawyer’s right to give lawful advice to a client and a client’s right to receive that advice. The second recognition was for his pro bono work with the Friends of B’nai Abraham, a nonprofit organization that worked to renovate the oldest standing synagogue in Minnesota.

Beyond his legal work, Alan is dedicated to community service and has been actively involved in both Jewish and secular organizations, serving in leadership roles at a variety of volunteer organizations. In his free time, Alan explores his family history through genealogy, with travels to Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, Israel, and throughout Europe.

Alan’s Minnesota Roots

Alan is a lifelong Minnesotan. In fact, his paternal great-great grandparents, great grandparents and grandparents all lived on Minnesota’s Iron Range. His maternal grandparents, Morris and Bernice Yellen, lived in St. Paul. Eventually, his paternal grandparents, Dr. George and Minnie Milavetz, also moved to St. Paul.

Alan’s parents Robert (a lawyer) and Michele, moved to Golden Valley, where Alan was raised along with his sister, Stacy, and his brother, Jamie. He now lives in Mendota Heights with his wife, Bonnie, where they raised four children.
